If you spend hours at a desk or looking at your phone, that nagging pain in the back of your neck might feel unavoidable. But the issue isn’t just your neck—it’s how your entire upper body moves (or doesn’t). The neck, shoulders, and upper back work as a unit, and when one part is out of balance, tension builds up. Try these three moves to relieve strain, strengthen key muscles, and improve posture.
Relax: Upper Trapezius Release
Your traps work overtime when your shoulders creep up toward your ears. Loosen them up with this stretch:
Sit tall, gently tilt your head to one side.
Use your hand to apply light pressure for a deeper stretch.
Hold for 30 seconds per side.
Strengthen: Chin Tucks
Poor posture makes your head shift forward, straining your neck muscles. Reset your alignment with chin tucks:
Sit or stand tall, looking straight ahead.
Gently tuck your chin back, creating a double-chin effect.
Hold for 5 seconds, repeat 10-15 times.
Integrate: Wall Angels
Your neck relies on strong, mobile shoulders. Wall angels help reinforce good posture:
Stand against a wall, arms bent at 90 degrees.
Slowly raise and lower your arms like making a snow angel.
Keep your back and head in contact with the wall. Do 10 reps.
Neck pain isn’t just a neck problem—it’s a whole-body issue. Improve mobility, strengthen your posture, and move smarter to keep pain away. Try these daily and feel the difference!
